Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honored with Mauritius’ highest civilian award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, by President Dharam Gokhool. This historic recognition further strengthens India-Mauritius relations and highlights India’s growing global influence.

During his two-day visit to Mauritius, Narendra Modi was conferred with Mauritius’ highest civilian award in a special ceremony. After receiving the award, he shared a warm moment with President Dharam Gokhool, reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. This prestigious honor marks the 21st international award bestowed upon Narendra Modi, making him the first Indian leader to receive this recognition.

Strengthening India-Mauritius Relations

As part of his visit, Narendra Modi engaged in high-level discussions with key leaders, including former Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. Their meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Sharing his thoughts on X, Narendra Modi posted, “Had a good meeting with former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.”

Additionally, PM Modi held talks with Georges Pierre Lesjongard, MP and Leader of the Opposition in Mauritius, where they discussed strengthening India-Mauritius ties for mutual growth and development.

Earlier in the day, Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people of Mauritius on their national day and expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the celebrations. He also shared highlights of his visit, including the grand welcome and his discussions with Mauritius’ Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

During their meeting, PM Modi and PM Ramgoolam reviewed bilateral relations and explored new avenues to elevate the India-Mauritius partnership. Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment as a “valued and trusted development partner” for Mauritius, emphasizing collaboration for the Global South’s prosperity.

Strengthening Maritime Cooperation

At a banquet dinner hosted by PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Narendra Modi emphasized the unbreakable bond between India and Mauritius. He recalled his previous visit, where he introduced the SAGAR vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region), underscoring Mauritius’ significance as India’s “close maritime neighbor” and “key partner” in the Indian Ocean region.

Historic Recognition for PM Modi

In a landmark moment, Mauritius’ Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced that Narendra Modi would receive Mauritius’ highest civilian award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to strengthening India-Mauritius relations. During a special ceremony at the State House, Narendra Modi also handed over OCI cards to President Dharambeer Gokhool and First Lady Brinda Gokhool, symbolizing India’s commitment to its strong ties with Mauritius.

With this historic honor, Narendra Modi continues to solidify India’s global presence, strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering international cooperation. His visit to Mauritius has further reinforced the strategic and cultural partnership between the two nations, paving the way for future collaborations.
